AssuranceAmerica Adopts Progressive Vehicle Symbols in Tennessee

AssuranceAmerica filed a 3.4% overall rate increase for its private passenger auto program in Tennessee, compared with an indicated increase of 16.1%.

The filing affects 830 policyholders and $613,382 in written premium, with a projected premium increase of $20,916. Renewal changes will be capped between a 15% decrease and a 15% increase.

As part of the revision, AssuranceAmerica is replacing an older version of Progressive’s vehicle symbol system with Progressive’s latest symbol structure and adding a vehicle-type surcharge. The insurer is also revising base rates, model-year factors, policy matrix factors, underwriting tiers and ZIP code factors.

The filing introduces verified-customer discounts based on whether an applicant’s reported residential address matches information from electronic data sources. Customers with a verified address receive a 5% discount on bodily injury and property damage coverage, while verified returning customers receive a 10% discount across several coverages. Applicants whose addresses cannot be verified and who are not returning customers receive a 5% bodily injury and property damage surcharge.

The filing was submitted July 13.

AssuranceAmerica is seeking effective dates of July 15, 2026, for new business and August 19, 2026, for renewals.
