MetLife filed for an 11% overall rate increase for its pet insurance program in Rhode Island, citing an indicated need of 13% based on its review of historical claims experience.
The filing would affect 3,187 policyholders and approximately $2.22 million in written premium, increasing premium volume by an estimated $237,358. The proposed changes would apply to both new and renewal business beginning December 1, 2026, if approved.
The company said the filing updates rates for its existing pet insurance products following a prior Rhode Island filing approved earlier this year. Under the proposal, individual policy changes would range from a 3% decrease to a 20% increase.
