Tesla General Insurance has filed updated personal auto insurance forms in Washington as part of a new version of its Tesla Insurance program, with a proposed effective date of September 1, 2026. The filing replaces the carrier’s existing policy forms and introduces a new Policy Premiums & Telematics Notice for customers enrolled in Tesla’s Real-Time Insurance program.

Under the new notice, monthly premiums may change based on telematics data collected from Tesla vehicles. The insurer says it calculates premiums using drivers’ Safety Scores, Full Self-Driving (Supervised) usage, annualized mileage derived from odometer readings, and other relevant information. Safety Scores are updated at the end of each monthly billing cycle based on the previous 30 days of driving, and can affect the following month’s premium. The filing notes that Tesla Real-Time Insurance is the only insurance program the company offers in Washington.

The filing also replaces Washington policy forms covering the personal auto policy, declarations page, named driver exclusion endorsement, underinsured motorist coverage selection/rejection form, and personal injury protection selection/rejection form.

The submission was initially flagged by Washington regulators for a technical correction after a mismatch between a form number listed in the filing schedule and the attached document.

Tesla Insurance is currently available in 15 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. Tesla previously received approval to offer auto insurance in Washington in 2023, but the program was never launched.
