Aspen has submitted a rate and rule filing in California for its Lawyers Professional Liability program, requesting an overall rate decrease of 0.9% for new and renewal business effective August 1, 2026.
The change affects 385 policyholders and approximately $6.8 million in written premium, with an average premium reduction of about $160 per policy.
The company said the adjustment reflects its latest review of program experience, incorporating California-specific loss trends along with countrywide data to balance stability with recent performance.
The filing also includes updates to rating and underwriting rules, with revised schedule rating factors tied to firm characteristics such as financial condition, practice mix, risk management controls, client concentration, and operational governance.
The product provides claims-made professional liability coverage for law firms and attorneys, with base limits of $100,000 per claim and $300,000 aggregate.
The filing was submitted on February 22, 2026 and is pending review by the California Department of Insurance.
