American Family Updates Customer Billing Program in Idaho

American Family has filed a rule update in Idaho to revise its Customer Billing Program for specialty insurance lines, including watercraft, miscellaneous vehicles, motorhomes, campers, and motorcycles. The changes are scheduled to take effect on November 29, 2025.

The update introduces a $5 administrative fee per billing notice, a cost aimed at covering manual processing and mailing of paper bills. Policyholders who enroll in automated payments or receive electronic bills will avoid the fee entirely. This administrative fee aligns with previously approved fees in American Family’s auto program.

Other existing billing-related charges in the revised manual include:

  • $10 handling fee for late payments

  • $20 returned bank item fee for bounced checks

American Family justified the new fee using internal accounting data, citing financial operations, policy servicing, vendor charges, and mailing expenses. The filing (SERFF Tracking #: AMFC-134583401) includes redlined rate pages and was submitted for interline personal filings.

The company is domiciled in Wisconsin and authorized to write this line of business in Idaho.
