American Family Files Oregon Auto Rate Cut

American Family filed a rate revision in Oregon on January 21, 2026, proposing an overall 1.1% rate decrease. The changes affect 20,736 policyholders and approximately $58.4 million in written premium. New business is effective February 12, 2026, with renewals beginning March 15, 2026.

The filing does not change base rates. Instead, it adjusts discount structures and rating factors, with a focus on premium stabilization and customer retention.

American Family is increasing its “Steer into Savings” discount from 10% to 15% for customers with five or more years of prior carrier tenure. The insurer is also revising its “Early Bird” discount, explicitly benchmarking the factor against Hartford Insurance Company of the Southeast, suggesting competitive positioning played a role in the adjustment.

The filing also revisits antique vehicle rating factors, which the insurer said previously caused an “extreme” and “undesirable” impact on some customers. The updated factors are intended to correct that outcome.

This marks American Family’s second consecutive Oregon rate decrease, following a 2.3% reduction that took effect in May 2025.
