Texas Auto Filing From Redpoint Continues Tesla Ban

Redpoint County Mutual Insurance Company filed updated underwriting guidelines in Texas for its Commonwealth General Insurance Agency private passenger auto program, with changes taking effect July 7 for new business and August 9 for renewals, if approved.

According to the filing, the revisions are primarily organizational, separating underwriting guidelines from the company’s rules manual, adding sections covering its vanishing deductible and Mexico coverage, removing the physical damage section from the guidelines, and making formatting and grammatical updates. The company said the changes do not alter eligibility standards or coverage and will not affect its approximately 35,515 policyholders in the program.

The updated underwriting guidelines continue to classify all Tesla models as unacceptable for coverage, alongside Rivian, Polestar, Lucid-style EV competitors and other electric vehicles listed as ineligible. The manual also states that electric models are generally considered unacceptable vehicles under the program.
