Hartford to Transfer Oregon Personal Auto Policies to Affiliate Carrier

Hartford has filed in Oregon to transfer certain personal auto policies from Hartford Insurance Company of the Midwest to Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company, consolidating business into its Open Road Auto rate plan.

The move is intended to simplify Hartford’s auto portfolio by shifting legacy policies into its current Open Road platform, which the company says includes updated features and discounts.

The transfer will occur at renewal with no interruption in coverage, beginning with policies renewing on July 31, 2026. Hartford expects the transition to run for about one year and will notify policyholders at least 45 days in advance, in line with Oregon requirements.

Some policyholders may see changes to available coverage options and limits. Hartford notes that certain options offered under older products are not available under the Open Road plan, and policies will renew at the closest available limits where differences exist. Customers will be notified in advance and given the opportunity to review or adjust coverage.

As part of the transition, policy numbers will change and customers may receive a new application tied to the Open Road policy. Billing arrangements are expected to remain largely unchanged, though some customers may need to reauthorize payment information depending on their payment method.

Hartford framed the move as an internal consolidation rather than a market exit, aligning Oregon auto policies under a single rate plan while maintaining continuity for existing customers.
