Safeco Insurance Company of Illinois filed an update to its Michigan motorcycle program to reflect changes to the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association assessment. The filing was submitted on February 16, 2026, with a requested effective date of July 1, 2026.
The change revises the MCCA fee rule so the company charges the state-mandated amount with no additional markup. The semiannual MCCA fee will increase to $32.50 per motorcycle, or $65 annually, along with a $9.50 semiannual deficiency fee, or $19 annually.
Because the update reflects a state assessment rather than a change to base rates or rating factors, the overall premium impact is modest at approximately 0.3%. The change affects about 5,200 policyholders and is expected to increase written premium by roughly $6,100.
Safeco writes the program under prior approval in Michigan and is part of the Liberty Mutual group.
