National General Updates Renters Underwriting In Texas

National General, through Imperial Fire and Casualty Insurance Company, is updating its renters insurance underwriting guidelines in Texas to expand eligibility. The changes focus on simplifying internal rules rather than altering pricing, with updates to liability language, vendor references, protection class definitions, and loss history requirements.

The update applies to the company’s Tenant Homeowners program and is designed to make it easier for more applicants to qualify for coverage. It reflects a cleanup and standardization of how risks are evaluated, rather than a shift in appetite or pricing strategy.

The changes are set to take effect on April 15, 2026, for both new and renewal business.
