Selective Files for Auto Rate Increase in New Jersey

Selective Auto Insurance Company of New Jersey is seeking a 6.9% overall rate increase for its Personal Auto program, effective August 31, 2025, for both new and renewal business. The rate hike is backed by an actuarial indication of +25.3% and filed under New Jersey’s limited prior approval rules.

The filing introduces updated base rates, revised underinsured motorist rates, and adjustments to rating factors for policyholders aged 65 and older. A total of 21,017 policyholders are expected to be affected, representing $5.7 million in written premium. The proposal also includes capped rate changes ranging from +15.5% to +3.2% depending on individual scenarios.
