Root Insurance has updated its Colorado Private Passenger Auto program to include optional Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts coverage, without impacting overall rates. The changes—filed in March and approved in June—take effect April 1, 2025, for new business and May 4 for renewals.
The filing affects over 27,000 policyholders and introduces rating, eligibility, and policy rule revisions, including adjustments to billing, discount eligibility, and driver classification. OEM coverage applies to vehicles 10 years old or newer and ensures damaged parts are repaired or replaced with original manufacturer components.
Root continues to rely heavily on telematics, credit scoring, MVRs, and loss history reports to refine its pricing tiers and underwriting. Despite the program’s $75M premium size in Colorado, the filing is categorized as rate neutral. The last rate revision, effective August 2024, was also neutral, indicating a strategic focus on rules and risk segmentation over broad pricing shifts.
