ASI, part of Progressive, has introduced updates to its Alabama homeowners program, tightening deductible requirements and expanding the use of roof-related payment schedules.
The rule filing, submitted on March 31, 2026, was approved the same day, with changes effective May 12, 2026 for new business and July 12, 2026 for renewals.
At the coverage level, ASI is reinforcing wind and hail deductibles across the state. Policyholders in coastal counties—including Baldwin, Mobile, and Escambia—will be subject to a minimum wind/hail deductible of 2% of Coverage A limits, while all other counties will carry a minimum of 1%. The filing also formalizes that wind/hail deductibles cannot be lower than all other peril deductibles.
The more notable shift comes on the roof side. ASI is making its Roofing Material Payment Schedule mandatory for properties with roofs aged 11 years or older, applying to both new and renewal business. This effectively moves a portion of the book away from full replacement cost coverage toward scheduled or depreciated payouts based on roof age and materials.
Strategically, the filing reflects continued pressure on homeowners insurers to manage roof-related loss exposure, particularly in wind-prone states. By combining higher deductibles with age-based roof settlements, ASI is narrowing coverage while maintaining its existing pricing framework.
