Liberty Rolls Out Revamped Maryland Auto Policy

Liberty Mutual has introduced an updated personal auto program in Maryland, centered on a new base policy that consolidates multiple endorsements into a single form and aligns coverage with emerging risks.

The filing replaces the legacy policy with a new LibertyGuard Personal Auto Policy, integrating several mandatory endorsements directly into the contract to simplify structure and improve the customer experience.

The update includes a mix of new and revised endorsements, notably adding electric vehicle coverage, updating provisions for ridesharing and delivery network use, and refining terms around miscellaneous vehicle types and cancellation fees.

Coverage definitions expand to reflect modern usage patterns, including explicit treatment of transportation network platforms, delivery platforms, and vehicle sharing programs, while maintaining exclusions for commercial use unless specifically endorsed.

The policy also reinforces limits around liability, exclusions, and claims handling, including clearer rules on punitive damages, business use, and platform-based driving, signaling tighter control over gig-related exposure.

The filing is currently pending and targets an effective date of August 17, 2026 for new business and October 8, 2026 for renewals.
