Liberty Mutual Seeks 3.1% Personal Auto Rate Increase in Georgia

Liberty Mutual has filed for a 3.1% overall rate increase for its Georgia personal auto business, citing a 5.9% indicated need driven by loss trends and higher claim costs. The changes would take effect on renewals beginning August 31, 2026.

The filing affects two insurers within the group. Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Company, which accounts for nearly all of the book, is seeking a 3.1% increase across approximately 1,786 policyholders and $9.9 million in written premium. Liberty Insurance Corporation is seeking a 3.3% increase for a much smaller book of 11 policyholders and about $109,000 in premium.

The proposed changes are limited to updates to territorial base rates for liability, comprehensive, and collision coverages, along with uninsured motorist base rates. By coverage, Liberty is proposing increases of 3.9% for liability and 10% for uninsured motorist coverage, while comprehensive and collision rates would decrease by 2.5%.

Most policyholders would see modest changes. According to the filing, 95.5% of affected policies would experience rate changes between 0% and 5%, while just 3.9% would see increases of between 5% and 10%. The largest possible increase for an individual policy is 5.9%, while the largest decrease is 3.6%.

The filing follows two sizable Georgia personal auto increases approved in recent years: a 12.5% increase effective December 2023 and a 15% increase effective June 2024.
