Liberty Mutual filed to remove underwriting restrictions that limited physical damage coverage for certain Kia and Hyundai vehicles in Texas.
Effective July 18, 2026, all Kia and Hyundai models will once again be eligible for physical damage coverage in every Texas county for new business. The filing eliminates references to the restrictions that had previously applied to specific vehicles and geographic areas.
The change is rule-only and carries no rate impact. Liberty reported a 0% overall rate change and said no third-party data or models were used in the revision.
The restrictions were introduced amid a nationwide surge in thefts of certain Kia and Hyundai vehicles lacking engine immobilizers, prompting several insurers to limit coverage in some markets.
