Independence American Insurance Company submitted a Florida filing to revise rates and policy provisions for its pet insurance program, with changes effective April 1, 2026, for new and renewal business.
The filing requests an overall medical coverage rate increase of 2.2% along with base rate adjustments. The program covers approximately 6,750 policyholders and reflects $5.17 million in written premium for the period ending May 31, 2025.
As part of the update, the company is reducing the accident waiting period from two days to zero and shortening the orthopedic condition waiting period from 180 days to 30 days. The filing also introduces a transition approach for medical premiums, with renewal increases capped at 60%.
The program is administered by PetPartners. Coverage is sold directly to individuals on a reimbursement basis using billed charges, and includes business group and affinity discounts.
The action follows a series of larger increases in recent years, including rate changes of 8.2% in 2025, 15.6% in 2024, and 19.1% in 2022.
