Figo Seeks Hawaii Pet Rate  Hike

Independence American Insurance Company has filed for a rate and form update in Hawaii for its Figo pet insurance program, with changes requested to take effect April 1, 2026 for both new business and renewals.

The filing includes an overall rate increase of 20.5%, expected to add about $336,000 in written premium across roughly 3,170 policies. The program currently generates approximately $1.6 million in written premium in the state.

In addition to the rate changes, the company submitted an updated policy form that primarily reflects clarifications rather than material coverage changes, along with a revised rate manual.

The Figo product provides accident and illness coverage for dogs and cats and allows policyholders to select from different annual limits, deductibles, coinsurance levels, and per-incident copays. Premiums vary based on factors such as the pet’s age, breed, gender, location, and selected coverage design. Renewal increases for the base product are capped at 60% during the transition period.

The filing reflects actuarial adjustments to the existing program rather than a redesign of the underlying coverage.
