Independence American Insurance Company has filed for a rate increase on its pet insurance program in Michigan, seeking approval for new rates effective July 1, 2026, for both new business and renewals.
The filing applies to the company’s pet health insurance product administered and sold by PetPartners.
Independence American is requesting an overall rate increase of 6.3%, following a prior approved rate change that took effect July 1, 2025. The company estimates the change will impact 1,656 policyholders, increasing written premium for the program by roughly $95,000, to approximately $1.53 million annually.
According to the filing, the increase is driven by updated actuarial indications and revised base rates for core coverages, including Accident & Illness and Accident Only plans. The program continues to offer a wide range of rating variables, including age, breed, geographic area, deductible, coinsurance, annual and per-incident limits, and optional benefits such as wellness coverage, exam fees, inherited condition coverage, and alternative care.
