Grange Seeks Tennessee BOP Rate Hike

Grange Insurance Company has filed for a rate increase for its BusinessAssure Businessowners program in Tennessee, impacting both property and liability coverages. The filing was submitted on February 11, 2026, and is currently under review, with proposed effective dates of June 1, 2026, for new business and July 1, 2026, for renewals.

The insurer is requesting an overall 10% rate impact, based on an indicated need of 19.4%. The change is expected to generate approximately $951,206 in additional written premium across 2,536 policyholders, bringing total written premium for the program to about $9.5 million. Individual policy impacts will vary significantly, with changes ranging from -63.8% to +38.6%.

In addition to rate revisions, the filing updates multiple rating components, including building, contents, business income, and liability base rates, territory and class factors, rate stability factors, and updated rating algorithms. A new Advanced Quote Discount is also being introduced.

The company is adding two endorsements to the Businessowners form:

  • An Athletic or Sports Participants Exclusion, removing coverage for bodily injury arising from participation in sports contests or exhibitions.

  • A Franchise Extension Endorsement, which adds coverage for franchise-related increased rebuilding costs and lost franchise fees following a covered loss, with a default $25,000 limit unless a higher amount is scheduled.

The filing reflects continued pricing pressure in the small commercial segment, along with targeted underwriting changes to manage sports-related liability exposures and expand protections for franchise operations.
