Companies within the Berkshire Hathaway group are moving forward with lower workers’ compensation rates in Arkansas, following approval of a new filing tied to updated industry loss costs.
The filing—covering Cypress Insurance Company, Oak River Insurance Company, Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Insurance Company, and Redwood Fire and Casualty Insurance Company—adopts revised loss costs from the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) without changing each carrier’s existing loss cost multipliers.
The result is an overall 11.77% decrease in rates across the program, impacting 101 policyholders and reducing written premium by about $86,873.
Rate changes vary by entity:
- Homestate shows the largest decrease at -18.39%
- Oak River: -10.17%
- Cypress: -9.80%
- Redwood: -8.72%
The update follows last year’s -8.8% revision and reflects continued downward pressure on workers’ comp pricing in the state, driven by favorable loss trends embedded in the latest NCCI circular.
The new rates take effect July 1, 2026 for both new and renewal business.
