Zenni Optical is preparing to offer an eyewear protection plan backed by AIG WarrantyGuard.

The service contract covers eyeglass frames, lenses and coatings against mechanical failures and, when selected, accidental damage from handling. Covered incidents include broken hinges, lenses, nose pads and frames, as well as accidental drops, spills and scratches that impair vision.

For an approved claim, the customer may receive a replacement product or reimbursement for the original purchase price, including shipping and taxes. Coverage begins when the eyewear is delivered and may be offered for terms of one or more years.

Zenni will sell and administer the plan, while AIG WarrantyGuard will serve as the obligor in most states. The plan is expected to be available across 30 states and Washington, DC.

The Nevada filing, submitted July 17, remains under review.
