Root has updated its Wisconsin personal auto program, pairing a modest rate decrease with continued focus on telematics, data-driven underwriting, and partner-based distribution.
The changes take effect March 31, 2026 for new business and May 3, 2026 for renewals. The filing reflects an overall rate decrease of 4% across approximately 3,482 policyholders. The indicated change was only -0.5%, suggesting a more aggressive pricing move beyond what loss trends alone would support.
The program also expands several internal scoring layers, including:
- Financial responsibility tiers using TransUnion CreditVision Insurance Score
- Vehicle-level data such as history, mileage, and VIN classification
- Policy-level behavioral metrics, including billing history, endorsements, and tenure
In addition, Root is introducing a new rating factor: the Current Information Discount.
The Current Information Discount applies to both new and renewal policies when the named insured or an authorized agent completes a company-approved process to confirm that underwriting information is up to date. Applicable factors and coverages are detailed in the rate manual.
