Markel Expands Workers’ Comp With CityComp Rollout

Markel, through City National Insurance Company, is rolling out its “CityComp” workers’ compensation program across multiple states, targeting middle market risks.

In North Carolina (effective May 20, 2026) and Georgia (effective May 11, 2026), the program launches as new business with no existing premium or policyholders. It focuses on higher-hazard segments but aims to select risks with strong safety practices and favorable loss experience.

The structure relies on standard bureau loss costs with company-specific pricing and underwriting flexibility, including schedule rating and tailored payment options. Forms, rates, and rules are largely based on an existing framework used by Pinnacle National.

In Georgia, the program also includes a large risk option for accounts above $500,000 in premium, allowing negotiated pricing.

Overall, this is a controlled expansion into workers’ comp, centered on disciplined underwriting and targeted growth.
