Auto-Owners received approval for a 6.4% overall rate decrease for its private passenger auto program in South Dakota.
The decrease affects 12,727 policyholders and is expected to reduce written premium by approximately $1.8 million. Individual policy changes will range from no change to a 9% decrease. The insurer’s indicated rate need was a 27.8% decrease.
The filing also introduces a customer loyalty discount beginning after 12 consecutive months of coverage. The discount starts at 2.5% and increases annually, reaching 7% after 10 years.
Other changes include tenure-based home and auto multipolicy discounts, revised base rates, updated rates for recreational vehicles and a consolidated lease/loan gap coverage form. Auto-Owners also clarified that debit- and credit-card payments do not satisfy the electronic funds transfer requirement for its Digital Advantage Discount.
The changes take effect August 9, 2026, for new business and September 14, 2026, for renewals.
