Amica Mutual Insurance Company, part of Amica Mutual Group and domiciled in Rhode Island, has filed for a rate and rule change in Texas across its Dwelling, Tenants, and Condominium programs, effective January 1, 2026, for both new and renewal business. The filing affects 46,827 policyholders and $16.3 million in written premium.
The proposed overall rate increase is 10.1%, with an indicated change of 15.7%. By coverage, Dwelling rates are set to rise 10.2%, Tenants 1.6%, and Condominiums 10.5%. The filing also updates territory definitions, revises Rule 511 for Supplemental Loss Assessment, and increases the Multi-Line Discount (Rule A.5). The latter applies to policyholders who hold both auto and homeowners policies with Amica—or additionally, a personal umbrella policy.
Amica’s actuary noted that unusually high indications for the Freeze peril (331.9% for Dwelling, 419.7% for Tenants) stem from prior understatement of the peril’s share of premium after it was separated from Water coverage. The current adjustment aims to realign premiums with actual risk exposure, especially for Freeze and Wind perils.
The last revision, effective February 1, 2025, decreased rates by 0.6%. Prior condo filings reflected increases of 7.9% in August 2024 and 8.5% in February 2023.
