Root Florida Insurance Company updated its underwriting guidelines in Florida, effective February 19, 2026, under the state’s use and file provisions.
The changes expand eligibility by increasing allowable accident and violation thresholds, including raising the at fault accident limit for quoting from two to four accidents within the past year across all drivers on a policy.
The program continues to rely heavily on telematics for new business, generally requiring a minimum driving score of 17, or 36 if insufficient driving data is collected during the test drive period. Root’s digital model uses a profile based application funnel where users store driver, vehicle, and address information.
The updated guidelines also identify unacceptable risks, including drivers without a valid U.S. state license, drivers requiring an FR-44 filing, and vehicles valued above $150,000. In addition, the company is opting out of Florida’s preinsurance vehicle inspection program.
