Old Republic Insured Automotive Services has filed a new vehicle protection product in Maryland covering windshield damage and catalytic converter theft.

The limited warranty is sold through auto dealers and applies when the dealer installs the applicable windshield or catalytic converter protection product. It is optional and is not an auto insurance policy.

Windshield coverage pays to repair or replace the front windshield following damage from ordinary road hazards, including chips, bull’s-eyes and cracks of up to six inches. Benefits are limited to $10,000 per occurrence and in aggregate, or the vehicle’s actual cash value, whichever is lower.

Catalytic converter coverage pays for repair or replacement following theft or attempted theft. It also covers directly related damage to components such as oxygen sensors, wiring, exhaust pipes and mounting hardware. Total benefits are capped at $3,500 or the vehicle’s actual cash value.

Dealer Admin Services will administer claims, while Old Republic Insurance Company backs the warranty through a contractual liability insurance policy.

The filing was submitted on July 28 and is pending regulatory review. Old Republic said the form is new and does not replace an existing product.
