Liberty Mutual Files Homeowners Rate Increase In New Mexico

Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and Liberty Mutual Personal Insurance Company filed a homeowners rate adjustment in New Mexico on December 4, 2025, with new business effective January 9, 2026, and renewals effective February 13, 2026.

The filing affects 2,902 policyholders in total, including 80 policies written by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and 2,822 by Liberty Mutual Personal Insurance Company. Combined written premium for the program is approximately $4.9 million, split between $173,604 for LMIC and $4.73 million for LMPIC.

Liberty Mutual is seeking an overall rate increase of 3%, driven primarily by revised base rates and updated fixed expense provisions for H3 dwelling forms. The company’s actuarial support relies on five years of historical experience and industry calendar year loss trend data to support rate adequacy.

The filing notes that catastrophe modeling was used in the analysis, though hurricane and fire following earthquake provisions were excluded due to insignificant exposure in New Mexico. Liberty Mutual also flagged credibility concerns for Contents forms, stating that available experience data was insufficient and unreliable for determining rate adequacy for those coverages.

This marks a reversal from the prior filing, which resulted in an overall rate decrease of 6.3% effective February 13, 2025.
