General Motors Lowers Auto Rates in Virginia

GM National Insurance Company (GMNC), part of General Motors, has filed a rate and rule revision in Virginia for its Private Passenger Auto (PPA) program, effective November 6, 2025, for new business and January 16, 2026, for renewals. The filing affects 295 policyholders and $502,995 in written premium, with an overall 4.7% rate decrease (a reduction of $23,641 in written premium).

The revisions introduce key enhancements to GMNC’s telematics program, including a shift from 365-day to 90-day evaluation periods for Connected Vehicles, enabling faster integration of mileage and telematics data into rating. The company also moved the fixed expense calculation from a vehicle-level to a policy-level basis and decreased base rates to support pricing competitiveness.

GMNC stated that its conversion rate remains below target, and the rate decrease is intended to boost new business acquisition. The insurer operates on a direct-to-consumer model within Virginia.
