General Motors Files Auto Rate Decrease in Florida

GM National Insurance Company has filed a significant rate reduction for its Florida private passenger auto program, seeking an overall 22.9% base rate decrease across multiple coverages. The filing was submitted to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation on January 6, 2026, under the state’s use and file provisions.

The proposed changes apply to new business effective January 2, 2026, and renewal business effective March 8, 2026.

GM National launched its Florida auto program on August 1, 2025, and implemented an earlier rate adjustment in September 2025 to improve competitiveness.

The company updated its competitive market basket to reflect recent rate decreases by major carriers, including State Farm and Travelers. GM National also shifted to giving full weight to Allstate’s Florida affiliate in its pricing analysis, citing alignment with its product structure and segmentation. As a result, several coverages saw material base rate reductions, including bodily injury, collision, comprehensive, personal injury protection, and uninsured motorist.

The filing also notes that Florida conversion rates remain well below both regional and nationwide benchmarks.
