General Motors Files Telematics-Driven Auto Program in Maryland

GM National Insurance Company, part of General Motors Group, has submitted a new program filing in Maryland to launch a Private Passenger Automobile product featuring a proprietary telematics-based rating system. The filing, effective March 16, 2026 (requested), establishes the foundational rules for the program, with rates to be filed separately.

The filing introduces a new set of Telematics Rules (T01–T06) covering Telematics Experience Data, Vehicle Definitions, Enrollment Discount, Rate Factor, and Household Telematics Factor. The program’s algorithm requires a minimum of 50 recorded trips to generate a personalized rate factor and incorporates up to 365 days of driving data. Applicants must consent to the use of their telematics data for rating purposes.

The program will be marketed through General Motors’ digital and offline channels, including direct mail, mobile, email, and GM-branded marketing platforms. The filing carries no rate impact and has been submitted to the Maryland Insurance Administration for review. The related forms filing was submitted separately under SERFF tracking number ONST-134669341.
