General Motors Cuts Texas Auto Rates

General Motors, via GM National Insurance Company, is seeking a 0.8% overall rate decrease for its private passenger auto program in Texas.

The filing affects approximately 14,500 policyholders and $35.5 million in written premium, representing an estimated premium reduction of $284,312. Individual decreases range from 0.1% to 4%.

The change comes from an adjustment to the program’s fixed expense premium. It follows a 5% rate increase that took effect in June, even as the company’s latest actuarial indication calls for a 9.4% increase.

The new rates are expected to take effect Oct. 19, 2026, for new business and Dec. 28, 2026, for renewals. The filing is pending with the Texas Department of Insurance.

Texas represented about 47% of GM’s countrywide written premium in 2025—$27.9 million of $59 million—and 51% of earned premium.
