Sentry, underwriting for Dairyland, has filed updates to its Idaho motorcycle insurance program that introduce more granular vehicle classification while keeping the overall rate impact neutral. The filing was submitted on January 2, 2026, with new business changes effective January 19, 2026, and renewals effective February 13, 2026.
The update affects 621 policyholders and represents $427,274 in written premium.
A core change in the filing is the transition from legacy 2-digit vehicle symbols to a 4-digit alphanumeric symbol structure, aimed at improving risk segmentation and pricing precision. To limit consumer disruption, Sentry Select is introducing rate capping of plus or minus 10% at renewal, even as underlying relativities are updated.
Additional changes include new base rates, revised insurance score curves, and updated engine displacement (CC) tables. Symbol factors were developed using a Generalized Linear Model (SAS GLM) applied to internal motorcycle experience data spanning 2015 through 2019.
The filing also maintains affinity and anti-theft incentives, including discounts tied to Harley Owners Group (HOG) membership and LoJack installation. Distribution is overseen by the Personal Lines Channel Distribution Manager, with the program positioned toward experienced riders.
The prior Idaho motorcycle rate revision took effect on May 12, 2025, and resulted in a 5.9% overall increase.
