QBE Reprices Ford Warranty Program

QBE is updating its contractual liability program supporting Ford vehicle service plans in Connecticut, combining a pricing reset with a more refined risk segmentation approach.

The program, developed in partnership with Ford Protect, targets customers nearing the end of their existing Ford or Lincoln service plans, offering extended coverage with a 36-month term followed by annual renewals. The underlying insurance structure covers the obligations of the service contract provider, meaning pricing changes apply at the obligor level rather than directly to consumers.

The update introduces a 24.5% price increase for new business, driven by a repricing exercise that adjusts rating relativities and vehicle banding. There is no impact to in-force policies, as the program currently has no active policyholders in Connecticut. Total written premium for the program stands at approximately $875K.

Alongside pricing, QBE is replacing its classification framework with a new Ford Vehicle Classification Guide (March 2026 edition). The update shifts toward more granular segmentation based on vehicle characteristics such as engine size, drivetrain, and performance—tightening the link between pricing and underlying risk.

The rating structure remains factor-driven, with premiums built from a base rate and adjusted across multiple inputs, including coverage tier, vehicle band, deductible, age, mileage, and renewal tenure. The addition of updated banding and classification logic signals a move toward more precise, data-driven underwriting.

Overall, the filing reflects a shift toward tighter pricing discipline and more granular risk selection, as carriers refine warranty-backed insurance programs to better align with vehicle-level exposure and distribution dynamics.
