Jewelers Mutual has filed for a 21.4% overall rate increase for its California Jewelers Block and Jewelers Standard commercial inland marine programs, effective January 1, 2027.
The filing reflects a 51.4% indicated increase and would raise projected earned premium for the program to $8.3 million from $6.8 million. It follows a 15.6% increase that took effect in January 2024.
The insurer says the changes respond to its experience with crime-related losses, including burglary and theft, which can produce abrupt swings in claim frequency and severity. Its rate changes include revised stock all-other-perils rates, deductible factors tied to coverage limits, location and construction-type factors, and new higher workmanship coverage limits.
A policy-impact exhibit covering 830 California locations shows an average premium increase of 14%, from $6,619 to $7,549. Impacts range from a 15.9% decrease to an 88.8% increase; 242 locations would see a decrease, while the remaining 588 would see increases.
