Starr File Workers’ Compensation Rate Decrease in Maryland

Starr Indemnity & Liability Company (SILC) and Starr Specialty Insurance Company (SSIC) have filed for a rate decrease on their Workers’ Compensation programs in Maryland, effective January 1, 2026. The filing adopts updated NCCI loss costs under reference number NCCI-134632965.

The revision impacts approximately 335 policyholders — 257 under SILC and 78 under SSIC — representing a combined $5.43 million in written premium. The companies project a total premium reduction of $594,279, with overall rate impacts of -10.942% (SILC) and -10.980% (SSIC).

This follows a prior 13.2% rate decrease implemented in April 2025 and continues Starr’s alignment with NCCI’s updated cost assumptions. The filing specifies Loss Cost Multipliers (LCMs) of 1.967 for SILC and 1.686 for SSIC, with individual policy impacts ranging from -36.4% to +15.8%.

The rate decrease reflects Starr’s ongoing commitment to maintaining actuarial adequacy while responding to favorable loss trends in Maryland’s workers’ compensation market.
