RLI Insurance has filed for an overall 8.7% rate increase to its RLIPack Businessowners (BOP) program in California.
The proposed increase would impact approximately 1,341 policyholders and generate an estimated $230,894 in additional written premium, bringing total program premium to roughly $2.65 million.
Alongside the rate change, the filing updates California-specific rules for the RLIPack BOP program. These include revised tier factors, an updated loss cost multiplier of 1.513, a $500 minimum premium, and expanded provisions related to green upgrade coverage, which allows insureds to repair or replace damaged property using energy-efficient or environmentally preferable materials. The green upgrade option also extends business interruption periods by up to 30 days to account for longer rebuild timelines.
Financial disclosures in the filing show deteriorating recent performance. In calendar year 2024, RLI reported an incurred loss and DCCE ratio of 82.3% for its California multiple peril book, compared with 41.6% in 2023, driven by higher losses and expenses. The company also reported a net underwriting loss of $141,677 for the most recent calendar year.
