MGT Seeks BOP Rate Increase in Kansas

MGT Insurance Company is seeking an overall 14.8% rate increase for its Mainstreet Businessowners program in Kansas.

The filing affects nine policyholders and would generate $4,399 in additional premium on a $29,780 book. Individual increases range from approximately 4% to 55%.

Three policyholders would receive increases exceeding 45%. All three are nail salons, which MGT said are currently priced “materially below prevailing market levels.” Their average premium increase would be approximately $450.

The filing introduces new age-of-business factors, liability relativities, class modifications and surcharges for exposures including gas pumps, car washes, propane filling stations and vacant land. MGT is also revising its full-pay discount, payment plan rules and professional liability rates for beauty salons.

New forms include exclusions for food and retail delivery operations and psychotropic or synthetic drugs, as well as anti-stacking and non-cumulation provisions. MGT is also adding optional 18- and 24-month extended business income restoration periods.

The insurer said it lacks sufficient experience to calculate an actuarial rate indication and instead based the proposed factors on competitor filings.

The changes are proposed to take effect for new and renewal business on September 1, 2026.
