CSAA has filed for a 50.1% average rate increase for its Pet Insurance Plan in California. The program is managed by Companion Protect and proposes an effective date of September 5, 2025, for new business and December 4, 2025, for renewals.
The proposed rate change follows a 2021 launch and reflects updated loss experience and trend assumptions. Monthly base rates are $88.50 for dogs and $45 for cats, with adjustments based on deductible, copay, pet age, territory, and discounts. The lifetime benefit limit is $100,000, with specific sublimits for orthopedic treatment, cremation, and prescription food.
Discounts include multi-pet (up to 5.6%), auto and property bundling (5% each), AAA membership (5%), and military (5%). A service fee of $1–$2 applies based on the payment method.
The filing includes a variance request due to limited historical data and projects premium growth from $638,101 to $957,790 across 1,631 policyholders.
