Church Mutual Adds Telematics and Anti-Theft Tools to Auto Program

Church Mutual has filed an informational update in New Mexico outlining new value added products for its Commercial Automobile Program, effective March 1, 2026, for both new business and renewals.

The filing introduces two loss mitigation offerings: a telematics program and catalytic converter theft prevention products. Both are positioned as optional resources designed to reduce loss frequency and claim severity rather than as rating or underwriting requirements.

The telematics offering provides real time monitoring of insured commercial vehicles, including GPS tracking, driver behavior analytics, and safety alerts. The program is intended to support safer driving practices and improve loss control through data on speed, braking, and driving patterns. Devices and services are provided through Azuga, either at a discounted rate negotiated by Church Mutual or, for certain approved fleet accounts, fully subsidized by the insurer. Church Mutual stated that no portion of these costs is included in premiums or recovered through rates.

The second offering provides policyholders access to discounted catalytic converter theft prevention products through CatStrap. The solution includes a physical cutting barrier and optional alarm system aimed at reducing theft related losses and vehicle downtime. Eligible policyholders receive percentage and flat dollar discounts on CatStrap products, with purchases made directly through the vendor and no charges embedded in insurance premiums.

Church Mutual characterized both offerings as value added products under New Mexico statute, focused on loss mitigation, risk monitoring, and claim cost reduction, rather than as insurance benefits or inducements.
