American National plans to withdraw its Specialty Renters program in North Carolina and nonrenew approximately 26,049 policies. The program covers tenants in approved apartment communities and includes property and liability as well as liability-only policies.

The insurer said the withdrawal is part of a broader effort to focus on farm, ranch and targeted commercial insurance. Its independent general agent has identified another carrier for the program, though the filing does not name it. Policyholders will be directed to eRenterPlan to obtain replacement coverage.

Nonrenewals are expected to begin with policies expiring around January 1, 2027, and continue through December 2027. American National said it will send a general notice, followed by a formal nonrenewal notice at least 45 days before each policy expires.
