American National plans to withdraw its Specialty Renters program from Oregon and nonrenew approximately 1,692 policies.

The program generated about $511,000 in direct written premium in 2025. Nonrenewals will begin with policies expiring around December 25, 2026, and continue through December 24, 2027.

The insurer said the withdrawal is part of a nationwide effort to focus on growing its farm, ranch and targeted commercial insurance businesses.

The program, which is offered to tenants of approved apartment communities without individual underwriting, will transition to American Modern Home Insurance Company. Customers will be directed to eRenterPlan to obtain replacement coverage.

American National will continue servicing existing policies and handling claims until coverage expires. Customers will receive a general notification followed by a formal nonrenewal notice at least 30 days before expiration.
