Pie Seeks California Rate Increase

Pie Insurance is seeking approval for a 12.1% overall rate increase for its California workers’ compensation program.

The proposed change would generate approximately $26.2 million in additional written premium across 18,486 policyholders. The program currently represents about $216.3 million in written premium.

Individual policy changes would range from a 38.7% decrease to a 39% increase. Pie indicated that a 16.8% overall increase was actuarially supported but selected the lower adjustment.

The filing was submitted on August 28, 2026, with a requested effective date of November 1 for new and renewal business. Pie’s previous revision, effective October 2024, increased rates by 2.6%.
