MetLife Seeks 13% Florida Pet Insurance Rate Increase

MetLife is seeking approval for an average 13% rate increase for its pet insurance program in Florida.

The filing covers dog, cat and exotic pet policies issued by Metropolitan General Insurance Company. The increase would be implemented through changes to base rates and distribution channel factors.

Medical coverage rates would increase by an average of 14%, while standard preventive care rates would rise 8%. Rates for scheduled preventive care would remain unchanged.

The program covers 32,267 Florida policyholders and approximately $22.7 million in written premium. MetLife expects the average annual premium to reach $1,075 and is requesting an effective date of September 15, 2026.
