Trisura Insurance Company has filed a rate and rule update for its Pet Health Insurance Program in Nevada, seeking a significant premium increase across its in-force book as part of a broader program revision.
The filing, submitted on December 23, 2025, requests an effective date of February 1, 2026, for both new and renewal business. Trisura is proposing an indicated rate change of roughly 60%, translating to an overall premium impact of about 46%. The filing affects 313 policyholders and would increase written premium for the program by approximately $86,000, bringing total program premium in Nevada to roughly $187,000.
The product is filed under Inland Marine and offers coverage for dogs and cats starting at seven weeks of age. Plan design includes multiple coinsurance options, deductibles ranging from $50 to $1,000, and annual benefit limits up to $40,000. Policyholders can also add optional routine care endorsements covering services such as wellness exams, vaccinations, dental cleanings, and preventive medications.
Pricing is driven by a multi-factor rating structure that incorporates geographic cost differences, breed-specific risk factors, and age-based morbidity curves tied to expected breed longevity. Discounts are available for certain groups, including military members, multi-pet households, veterinary staff, affinity groups, and partner channels, with total discounts capped at 12%.
Regulators have issued an initial objection letter requesting additional Nevada-specific rate support, profitability exhibits, and clearer disclosure of how changes to base rates and age and breed factors contribute to the overall increase. The filing remains open pending Trisura’s response.
