Progressive is entering California’s pet insurance market with a new accident and illness policy under its own paper, Progressive Select Insurance Company.

Coverage is capped at $100,000 per year and administered by Companion Protect. It reimburses for vet care, drugs, prescription food, and therapies, while excluding pre-existing conditions and routine wellness unless an endorsement is added. Waiting periods are 15 days for illness and 30 for orthopedic issues, waived after a vet exam.

Premiums can rise based on a pet’s claim history.
