Progressive Select Insurance Company is launching a new pet insurance program in Maryland under the name “PUP Pet Insurance Plan.” The plan provides coverage for accidents and illnesses, along with an optional wellness endorsement. It is underwritten by Progressive and administered by Companion Protect Agency.
Key features include reimbursement for medically necessary treatments, diagnostics, and prescription drugs, with optional benefits like dental cleanings, deworming, and flea/tick prevention. The plan excludes coverage for pre-existing conditions and includes waiting periods of 15 days for illnesses and 30 days for orthopedic conditions unless waived by a vet exam.
The policy also includes a mandatory binding arbitration clause and offers a 30-day free look period. Progressive has requested an effective date of July 17, 2025, for the new program.
