Progressive has filed a new optional home computer endorsement for its renters insurance program in North Carolina.

For an additional premium, the endorsement covers tablets, laptops, desktop computers, accessories, printers, modems and commercially purchased software against direct physical loss or damage from external causes. Business use is permitted, and a $500 deductible applies.

The coverage excludes data and home-developed software, as well as losses caused by wear and tear, mechanical breakdown, programming errors and electrical or magnetic damage unless caused by a confirmed direct lightning strike to the dwelling.

Progressive said the endorsement will replace a form previously offered by the North Carolina Rate Bureau that has been withdrawn. The insurer requested effective dates of March 31, 2027, for new business and May 31, 2027, for renewals. The filing is pending regulatory approval.
