The Medical Protective Company has filed for an 18.1% overall rate increase for its chiropractor, optometrist and podiatrist medical malpractice programs in Nevada.
The increase would affect 240 policyholders and generate approximately $62,800 in additional written premium on a current premium base of $347,180. Individual policy increases would range from 0% to 72.5%.
The Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary is proposing average increases of 3.5% for chiropractors, 22.6% for optometrists and 22.8% for podiatrists. The filing reflects an overall indicated rate need of 31.2%.
Other changes include revised optometrist limit factors and the withdrawal of an employed-podiatrist rating rule. The proposed changes would take effect November 1, 2026, for new and renewal business.
